Hockey’s finest outdoors! The NHL Winter Classic features National Hockey League regular-season games played outside on New Year's Day. The first was played on January 1, 2008 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, NY. This game, with an NHL-record crowd of 71,217 fans in attendance, was the first-ever regular-season outdoor NHL game held in the USA. The success of the 2008 NHL Winter Classic led the NHL to schedule a second one for 2009, held at Wrigley Field in Chicago on January 1, 2009, and the event has become an annual event. The 2010 Winter Classic will be held at historic Fenway Park in Boston, with the Boston Bruins hosting the Philadelphia Flyers on New Year’s Day, 2010.
